How to replace your backlight tube or LCD

Here you have a Dell Latitude XPi 133ST. For the sake of this demonstration, we'll pretend the backlight is bad. You can get a new CCFL tube from http://www.jkllamps.com. They run about 10-20$ so it is a cheap fix! The first step is to locate the little round, black rubber "tabs" on the corners of the screen and remove them with a small screwdriver or exacto knife. Here you can see all of the tabs removed. Remove the bezel screws and just slide a screwdriver around the edge to pop off the bezel.
Now unplug the 2 wire CCFL connector from the inverter. Be careful not to touch anything because there is some voltage there. Remove the 4 screws from the LCD corners as well. Now the screen will tip forward. Now follow the CCFL wires to the LCD and remove the screws from the metal that protects the CCFL tube.
I also had to remove the board in the next picture from here. Now that the metal is removed, you can move the board out of the way. The reflector plastic and reinforcing plastic are lifted up and out of the way. The CCFL tube will just slide out and over them.
Here the "new" tube has been soldered to the wires of the old tube and is tested. When you turn out the lights you really see it.  Ever looked in to the Sun before? Then you know what looking at a CCFL tube is like. Reassemble the LCD panel and stand it up in the computer. Turn it on and test it out.
2000 booted up just fine, everything is looking good! Now that everything tested ok, we'll put the mounting screws back in the LCD. Perhaps we should shut down first just to be safe ;)
Route your power wires around the screw hole. Snap the bezel in and put the screws back in. Note the screws are now black and not metallic. I swapped them to prove that I successfully reassembled it :) Put the rubber screw covers back in and stick a fork in it. You're done!
